She attended Tennessee State University where she studied and majored in speech communication and performing arts. Oprah was the first black woman television news anchor to work in Nashville at the WTVF-TV station ,she was 19 years old. In 1983, Oprah moved to Chicago to host an half hour morning show "AM Chicago" at WLS-TV. Beginning September 8,1986, it expanded to an 1 hour show and it was renamed "The Oprah Winfrey Show".
Oprah has also had success with acting in films. 1985- she starred in the movie "The Color Purple". 1988-she produced and starred in the film "Beloved". October 2009- she provided the voice for the character of Eudora, the mother of princess Tiana, in Disney's The Princess and the Frog.
