It depends on the region.

In any region, in the big centres, the most common are builings, in which people live in apartments.

But in smaller cities, besides apartments, most people lives in houses.

In North-East, houses are very colourful, and most of the times, not very big. They're close one to the other, side by side, and the different colours gives the street a great vivacity.

In the Southern rigion, houses are very similar to European houses, specially Germans house style, because this region was colognized by European people, bringing to there their culture and build style.

In south-East, the richest and most developed region, houses are like the houses in the United States coast, not different from what most people know as a house.

In Centre-West region, where the capitol (Brasilia) is located, houses are like those from South-East. It's also a rich region specially for being the centre of the politic government.

Northern region, where the Amazon is located, is not very occupied, but there are big cities in there like Manaus, where most people live in apartment, or regular houses.

Going more to the countryside, in the rural area, houses are more like farm houses.

In the Northen region are there few people living in small houses build margin the rivers, with their structures on the rivers, they're most poor people.

In the other regions, the place where poor houses were buit and where poor people lives are known as Slumbs

In the Neolithic and Bronze Age, stilt houses were common in the Alpine and Pianura Padana (Terramare) region.[4]Remains have been found at the Ljubljana Marshes in Slovenia and at the Mondsee and Atterseelakes in Upper Austria, for example. Early archaeologistslike Ferdinand Keller thought they formed artificial islands, much like the Scottish Crannogs, but today it is clear that the majority of settlements were located on the shores of lakes and were only inundated later on.[5]Reconstructed stilt houses are shown in open air museums in UnteruhldingenandZürich(Pfahlbauland). In June 2011, the prehistoric pile dwellings in six Alpine states were designated as the UNESCOWorld Heritage Site. According to archeological evidences stilt-houses settlements was an architectural norm in Caroline Islands and Micronesiaand still present in today Oceania.[6]Today, stilt houses are still common in parts of the Mosquito Coast in Northeastern Nicaragua, Northern Brazil, South East Asia, Papua New Guinea and West Africa.[7]In the Alps, similar buildings, known as raccards, are still in use as granaries. In England, graneries are placed on staddlestones, similar to stilts, to prevent mice and rats getting to the grain. Stilted graneries are also a common feature in West Africa, e.g. in the Malinkelanguage regions of Mali and Guinea.[citation needed]

Stilt houses are also common in the western hemisphere, and appear to have been an indigenous creation by the Amerindiansin pre-Columbian times. They are especially widespread along the banks of the tropical river valleys of South America (Palafito), notably the Amazon and Orinocoriver systems. Stilt houses were such a prevalent feature along the shores of Lake Maracaibo that Amerigo Vespucci was inspired to name the region "Venezuela" (little Venice). As the costs of hurricane damage increase more and more houses along the Gulf Coastare being built as or converted to stilt houses.[8]

• Kelong - built primarily for fishing, but often doubling up as offshore dwellings in the following countries Philippines, Malaysia, IndonesiaandSingapore.
• Nipa hut - the traditional house-type prevalent in the Philippinesalthough Philippine houses are mostly westernized
• Palafito - Found throughout South America since Pre-Columbian times.
• Pang uk - a special kind of house found in Tai O, Lantau, Hong Kong, mainly built by Tankas.
• Papua New Guinea stilt house - a kind of stilt house constructed by Motuans, commonly found in the southern coastal area of PNG.
• Thai stilt house - a kind of house often built on freshwater, e.g. a lotuspond.
• Vietnamese stilt house - similar to the Thai ones, except having a front door with a smaller height due to religious reasons.
• Heliotrope_(building)- a concept house designed by Rolf Dischwith a single stilt, optimized for harnessing solar power
• Waterstudio.NL's amphibious houses are also a sort of stilt house, using poles as anchoring points on which a floating deck (on which the house stands) moves up and down depending on the water level
