The Canadian monarchy is the foundation of the Canadian system of government.
Her Majesty the Queen of Canada is the Canadian head of State.
Section 9 of the Constitution Act, 1867 vests executive government and authority in the Queen. The Queen appoints a representative, the Governor General of Canada, on the advice of the prime minister. The Governor General performs most of the Queen's functions (though some functions can be performed by the Queen alone). The Queen's functions are almost always performed on the advice of the prime minister or another member of the Queen's Privy Council for Canada (such exercises of the Queen's power are referred to as the Queen-in-Council, and form the executive branch of government).
The Queen is also one of the three components of the Parliament of Canada, alongside the appointed Senate and the elected House of Commons. Once bills have passed both Houses, they are presented to the Governor General (representing the Queen). The Governor General grants royal assent to bills for the Queen (the Queen's role in Canadian legislation is referred to as the Queen-in-Parliament, and forms the legislative branch of government).
The Queen is also the Fount of Justice for Canada. Justices of the Supreme Court, and judges on the Federal Court and the superior provincial courts are made by the Queen (represented by the Governor General) on the advice of the prime minister. Decisions, sentences and remedies are handed down in the name of the Queen (the Queen's judicial role is referred to as the Queen on the Bench, and forms the judicial branch of government).
Canada is not a state, therefore, there is no state insect. Canada does not have a national insect.

Because Canada is a member of the commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II is our regent. The Queen's representative in Canada is called the Governor-General.
The British monarch is also the Canadian monarch, as Canada is part of the British Commonwealth. Therefore, there is currently no King of Canada, but Elizabeth II is the Queen of Canada.
yes the british monarch is the head of state canada
Canada certainly does have a Monarch. The Crown of Canada exists separate and apart from any of the other Crowns.Canada's Monarch is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is Canada's Head of State. When Her Majesty is not in Canada, She is represented by the Governor General. No, but we do have a monarchy.
Because Canada is a member of the Commonwealth of Nations- which has Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as the constitutional monarch. Her Majesty is also the ruling monarch of Great Britain.
The Canadian monarch is the Head of State, Commander-in-chief of the armed forces, and a representative of all Canadians, rather than just a minority political constituency, like the elected members of Canada's government. The monarch is also the font of all meritorious awards like the nation's highest honour, the Order of Canada. The Monarch is heir to every sovereign that this land has ever known dating back to the crowns of England, Scotland, Wales, France, Denmark & Spain. Lands once controlled by these sovereigns were ceded to the monarch's ancesters, not the government of the England. All first nations who welcomed partnership with European settlers have their relationship to the crown rather than to the Canadian government. Therefore, sovereignty over the lands we call Canada is only legitimized by the nation's relationship to the current Monarch and her heirs. Unfortunitely the Canadian monarch is also monarch of several other countries, independent of her role in Canada and generally spends her time in the United Kingdom. All of the monarch's perogatives in Canada are exercised by a Governor-General, appointed by the current Prime Minister of Canada.
