Belgian, Breton, Clydesdale, Percheron, Shire Horse Isle: Belgian :DD
The shire horse is named a shire horse because it originated in the shire counties of England.
The Shire is the tallest horse on average, but many Percheron's and Belgians have surpassed the Shire, though this is not very common. The original type of Belgian draft called a Brabant is known for being the heaviest draft horse on average weighing up to 3,000 pounds. Many horses Shire, Percheron, and Belgian alike have exceeded 21 hands in height.
Shire horses were not 'discovered', they were created by humans who wanted a bit sturdy draft type horse. The Shire truly began to become a breed in the 16th century when people crossed the Old English Black horse with Dutch horses. The term 'Shire' was used in the mid 17th century to describe the draft horses from the 'Shires' region in England. The breed registry/association opened in 1884 in England.
The Shire is a draft breed.
It is hard to pin a ribbon on the five tallest breeds. The most noted tall breed is the Shire, with Samson (a Shire gelding) being the largest horse to ever live. Close behind are the over cold blood, or "draft/draught" horses such as the Irish Draught, the Percheron, or the Belgian. Some warmbloods can reach good size at high 16 hands or low 17 hands. Some crossbreeds can also reach a good size.
The dray horse, or draft horse as it is more commonly known, is bred in the Shire. They are used for heavy work of pulling. They provide a great deal of "Horse Power".
Shire is the biggest horse breed, measured up to 2.23 meters. Answer for Horse Isle: Shire
The largest breed of horse tends to be the percheron but other large horse breeds are drum horse, shire, clydesdale, Friesian, or really any draft breed.
That all depends on the breed and the individual horse. A Clydesdale's or Percheron's hoof, for example, may measure about the size of a dinner plate, which is at least 10 inches in diameter. By comparison, the hoof of a Thoroughbred or Quarter horse may only be around 4 to 5 inches in diameter; a pony's hoof a bit smaller, again, depending on the breed.
