To locate a bypass route, the point of departure must be known. It should be an easy task if you are driving from Chicago, Miami or New York City.
I have driven this route about 7 times to visit family. The mileage is about 1900 miles. Driving time is around 28 hrs. I suggest doing the drive with two stops. I generally find this route tiresome after 9-10 hrs. I make a stop in Albuquerque and Las Vegas. This gives about 9 hrs of driving each day. Have fun!

By plane. If you are driving, I5 would be the quickest, most direct route.
