Our largest contribution to foreign aid has to be our Immigration programs. Canada has more immigrants per capita than any other Western Country and is our #1 effort to helping those wanting out of poorer economic conditions. This is why we place very few restrictions on immigration and do not require all immigrants to be young and working in a profession needed in Canada.
The result is a net cost of about $25 Billion dollars a year.
We also have several direct and indirect foreign aid programs but they are much smaller cost about $6 Billion dollars a year.
Not included in those numbers are the very direct forgien aid in the form of money sent to families overseas. That is estimated to be another $25 Billion dollars.
Keep in mind that Canada only has 35 million people, less than one half of one percent of the worlds population and about 40% of those Canadians were not born in Canada or have at least one parent not born in Canada.
Few countries supply as much foreign aid per capita as Canada.
