It entirely depends on the person & the show. If they are well known like Ryan Seacrest, he gets paid top dollar. He was reportedly making 15 million dollars hosting American Idol.
If you're, let's say, Nick Lachey hosting The Sign Off, you're not making anywhere near 15 million.
It depends on the market size, time slot, and popularity of the host. The salary range is very diverse. Some hosts make just above hourly minimum wage while others bring in millions. Typically, if you are in a city with a small population (300,000 or less) you can look to make 30k a year. If you are in a city larger than that you can stand to make 50k-70k. The reason salaries are so much lower than expected is because the competition is high. There are a lot of people who are just dying to get behind the mic and will do it for peanuts. However, great hosts are hard to find and can demand a much larger paycheck.
Howard Stern is the most popular example of a host raking in the dough. He is paid a cool $100 MILLION a YEAR while most hosts in the morning drive are eager to crack six figures..
The highest paid NON- syndicated Radio show host Is Bill Handel Esq. on KFI Los Angeles,, who is paid for the 6AM-10AM morning show $575,000 per year. NOT counting "Handel-On-The-Law" programme (syndicated) and commercials he voices. He has other incomes with his Law Practice.
Talk show hosts do not get paid by the hour. They have a contract that specifies the salary they will receive for a specific time period and other details of the job. Some talk show hosts actually own or produce the show or the company that produces the show, so the amount they earn depends on the show's profit.
