There have been six ties in the history of the Academy Awards:

1. In the 1931-1932 Best Actor category, a tie was declared between Fredric March (for "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde") and Wallace Beery (for "The Champ").

2. In the 1949 Best Documentary category, Oscars were awarded to the filmmakers of "A Chance to Live" and "So Much for So Little."

3. Katharine Hepburn and Barbra Streisand tied for Best Actress of 1968. Hepburn won for her performance in "The Lion in Winter"; Streisand won for "Funny Girl."

4. Oscars were awarded in the 1986 Best Documentary category for "Artie Shaw: Time Is All You've Got" and "Down and Out in America"

5. The 1994 Best Live Action Short Film award was shared by "Franz Kafka's It's a Wonderful Life" and "Trevor." One of the winning filmmakers for the first film was Scotland's Peter Capaldi, the latest actor to star in television's "Doctor Who."

6. There was a tie for the 2012 Sound Editing Oscar between "Skyfall" and "Zero Dark Thirty."
