In Alabama, child support must be paid until the child reaches the age of majority, which is 19; however, the Court can rule that a parent be responsible for paying college expenses even after a child reaches this age as long as the request is made prior to reaching the age of majority.

Most, if not all states say till the child turns 18 years old, or completes (or no longer enrolled in) highschool, which ever is last. So they could be 19 1/2 and still child need your support.

North Carolina's age of majority is 18. Parents legalfinancial obligations to theirchildren ends at that time. They can of course continue to support their children in whatever manner they choose.

In situations where a non custodial parent is under a court order for support the order itself indicates when financial obligations are ended. However, it is always prudent for the non custodial parent to contact the court and/or obtain legal advice before ceasing payment.

the obligation ends when the child reaches 18 years of age. A child will also automatically be ineligible for child support if that child marries, or is removed from disability status by a court order.

The age of majority in Alabama is 18. However, as in all U.S. states the child support order determines when child support obligations may cease. Obligated parents should never arbitrarily stop paying the required support until/unless he or she has received confirmation from the court that they may do so.

Child support is normally payable (in any place) while the child is below the age of adulthood. What puzzles me is - if you have the means to support your child why would you not want to do so while that child needs your help.

At least until the child is eighteen and out of high school. Then it depends on your separation agreement and your state laws. Some jurisdictions require reasonable help through college.
