I believe it was about 100 miles off the coast, but I'm not quite sure. National Geographic's magazine this month is for the Titanic's 100 year anniversary, and I remember reading something about its distance from the coast.

The Titanic was as long as four city blocks (882 1/2 feet / 269m) and as wide as a four-lane highway (92 1/2 feet / 28m). Its nine decks made it as tall as an eleven-story building. If it stood on it s end, the liner would have rivaled the tallest buildings of its day.

The Titanic was around 400 miles from New York when it sank. The nearest port was Halifax, at around half that distance.

The Carpathia was 3 hours from the Titanic. Appromixately 58 miles when the first SOS was received from the Titanic.
