Color TV works by putting sending more or less power through lights of different colors. In the old cathode ray tube (CRT) TVs, this was done with a phosphorus screen and a proton particle beam. In newer LCD and plasma TVs, each pixel is a light and is turned on or off in varying degrees of intensity.
The TV camera is sensitive to 3 colours, red, blue and green. It images the scene in these three component colours and transmits them in such a way that the three colours can be separated at the TV receiver. The cathode ray tube has three electron guns which fire electrons focused on to red blure or green phosphor dots printed behind the glass of the tube. The guns fire according to the received signal and the phoshors glow accordingly. If all three guns are fired equally white light is generated by the triad of three dots.
An LCD or LED TV works in a similar way but without high voltage electron guns.
