Various events are staged throughout the country to commemorate this day. Provincial Premier addressed the public at a Heritage Day celebration at the Gugulethu Heritage trail in 2007. In Hout Bay, there is an army procession and a recreation of the battle fought there. It's also a day for braais (barbeques).

The majority of South Africans are Christians and therefore most would celebrate Christmas from a religious point of view, many going to church on Christmas morning.
Yes, Valentine's Day is celebrated throughout all Christian places (or even non-Christian places) in the world as it is a Christian Holiday; South America is mostly Christian and yes, the holiday is celebrated throughout the continent. Some countries, such as Brazil, however celebrate a similar holiday but on a different day of the year other than February 14.
