The Antipodes Islands were named by Captain Henry Waterhouse and crew, on the British ship Reliant, as the first Europeans to discovered them in 1800.
The name was originally Penantipodes from Latin paene:almost and Greek anti: opposite and podos: foot, because it is the nearest land to the antipode of London. An antipode has the exact opposite latitude and longitude, and is on the opposite side of the earth from a location.
The islands are the true antipode of a point in the English Channel off the north coast of France. The closest land is Point de Barfleur near Cherbourg in Basse-Normandie.
Zealandia is the continent we are on, but as most of it is submerged, we are a group of islands, some quite widely spread. From the Auckland islands in the south to Raoul Island in the north, and Antipodes Island and Chatham Islands in the East.
Easter Island is the only Antipodes for india.
Well, New Zealand itself and its associated islands are all in the Pacific, as are Auckland, Campbell, Scott islands, and Antipodes Islands also. But in the north of New Zealand, occupied/settled islands would include the Cook Islands, Tokelau, and Niue, which are within the Realm of New Zealand.
New Zealand and its several islands are mainly bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the east, but the main three islands have the Tasman Sea on their west. The Antipodes Island, of volcanic origin, are considered antipodean to London, (but are actually to part of France) but are still in the Pacific Ocean. A shard of early Polynesian pottery (Lapita?) has been found on the Antipodes islands, indicating that this remote and southerly land was visited by those early voyagers.
The Royal Albatross (Maori = toroa) and live in the Chatham Islands, and the sub antarctic islands of Campbell and Auckland. There are considered two races of these, and the northern race lives at Tairoa Head near Dunedin. This colony started visiting (again?) in the 1930s, and began breeding at Tairoa in the 1940s. The Wandering Albatross lives in Antipodes, Auckland and Campbell Islands.
Antipodes Islands's population is 0.
The area of Antipodes Islands is 22 square kilometers.
Antipodes aren't living things. They are a group of rocky islands in the southern Pacific Ocean that include Australia and New Zealand.
What about "The Antipodes"?Theoretically, there is no collective name for the two countries. They both fall within the general region of Oceania, as do several small pacific nations and islands..answer 2 firstly, as to the question, Australasiais a common collective name for these two countries. And indeed the broader region is Oceania.Antipodes is the generic name for "what is opposite on the globe to ... ", and you could have the antipodes to Moscow, or Washington etc. Because of historic colonial traditions, there is a place called 'Antipodes Island' - about the antipodes of Britain.
Possibly the Antipodes Islands off the south east coast of New Zealand.
