Things were a lot different back then. They didn't have cell phones. If you wanted to talk to someone a long distance away, you had to yell. Back then they didn't have inflation. Back then your money would buy more as time went on. It only cost about 50 cents in 1900 to buy what a dollar would buy in 1800. The dollar doubled in value.
In the early 1800s they didn't even have standard time. Each town would set the time by local apparent time. When ever the sun was at it's highest point in the sky that was 12 noon for that town.
