Relative age is simple, the farther they are under ground they older they are compared to the rocks above it.

Absolute age though I do not know.

What is the difference between relative ages of and relative position of rocks?

Age is how old the rock is relative to other rocks, position is where the rock is in relation to other rocks. Tectonic motion and other forces can easily turn a portion of the Earths crust upside down resulting in older rock lying above younger layers.

When was Rock of Ages released?

Rock of Ages was released on 06/15/2012.

What method can scientists use to determine the absolute age of a rock?

They take samples and experiment on them and look at the samples with microscopes. The experiments can then show them the age of the rock. They say "how old are you mr rock" then the rock will say its ages ░░░░░▄▄▄▄▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▀▄▄▄▄▄▄░░░░░░░ ░░░░░█░░░░▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒░░▀▀▄░░░░ ░░░░█░░░▒▒▒▒▒▒░░░░░░░░▒▒▒░░█░░░ ░░░█░░░░░░▄██▀▄▄░░░░░▄▄▄░░░░█░░ ░▄▀▒▄▄▄▒░█▀▀▀▀▄▄█░░░██▄▄█░░░░█░ █░▒█▒▄░▀▄▄▄▀░░░░░░░░█░░░▒▒▒▒▒░█ █░▒█░█▀▄▄░░░░░█▀░░░░▀▄░░▄▀▀▀▄▒█ ░█░▀▄░█▄░█▀▄▄░▀░▀▀░▄▄▀░░░░█░░█░ ░░█░░░▀▄▀█▄▄░█▀▀▀▄▄▄▄▀▀█▀██░█░░ ░░░█░░░░██░░▀█▄▄▄█▄▄█▄████░█░░░ ░░░░█░░░░▀▀▄░█░░░█░█▀██████░█░░ ░░░░░▀▄░░░░░▀▀▄▄▄█▄█▄█▄█▄▀░░█░░ ░░░░░░░▀▄▄░▒▒▒▒░░░░░░░░░░▒░░░█░ ░░░░░░░░░░▀▀▄▄░▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒▒░░░░█░ ░░░░░░░░░░░░░░▀▄▄▄▄▄░░░░░░░░█░░ TROLL

What two types of ages of rocks that geologists talk about?

Geologists talk about relative ages and absolute ages of rocks. Relative ages are determined by the order of rock layers, with younger layers on top and older layers at the bottom. Absolute ages are determined through radiometric dating methods to provide a specific age in years for a rock sample.

By applying the law of superposition what dates can be determined?

By applying the law of superposition, the relative ages of sedimentary rocks can be determined. This allows geologists to arrange rock layers in chronological order, with the oldest layers at the bottom and the youngest layers at the top. Absolute dates (specific numerical ages) cannot be determined solely through the law of superposition.

What method do geologists use to determined the absolute age of a rock?

Radioactive dating is used to determine the absolute ages of rocks. By Jennifer Palos

How might relative and absolute age be used to establish ages in a series of rock layers?

Relative age is determined by the position of rock layers in relation to one another, using principles like superposition and cross-cutting relationships. Absolute age is determined by radiometric dating of the rocks themselves, providing a more precise numerical age of when the rocks formed. By combining these methods, scientists can establish a timeline of events in a series of rock layers.

How can you determine the absolute age of an igneous rock?

Relative age can be determined using superposition and cross-cutting relationships. Absolute age can only be determined using radiometric dating methods, such as Rb-Sr.

What is the difference between the relative age and absolute age of rocks?

Relative age is the age of a rock relative to the rock layers around it, absolute age is a rock's exact age.

What is relative and absolute age?

Relative age refers to the age of an object or event in relation to other objects or events, typically determined through stratigraphy and the law of superposition. Absolute age refers to the specific number of years since an object or event formed, usually determined through radiometric dating techniques.

What are relative fossils?

Answer: The age of a rock compared to the ages of the rock layers.

What is absolute age?

Absolute age refers to the exact age of a rock, fossil, or other geologic feature in years. It is typically determined using radiometric dating techniques that measure the decay of radioactive isotopes within the object. This method provides a more precise and accurate age compared to relative dating methods.

Is relative dating the most accurate process by which geologists determine the age of a rock?

No, relative dating is not the most accurate process for determining the age of a rock. Absolute dating methods, such as radiometric dating, are more precise and provide specific numerical ages for rocks. Relative dating can provide an estimate of the age of a rock by comparing it to other rocks or events, but it does not give an exact age.

What is difference between relative and absolute age?

In terms of geology, Relative Age is the age of an object in relation to the ages of other objects. Layers of rock, called strata, show the order of events that took place in the past and Absolute Age is the numerical age of an object or event.
