Calgary was deemed to far south despite its size (albeit they were very similar), trade (Calgary is known in Canada as "Cow-town" by chance) , and perhaps most importantly railway (The CPR went right through Calgary) advantages. Edmonton was to be somewhat of a forward capital used to create two distinct and important commercial and administrative hubs in Alberta.
