Waikiki, volcanoes, Diamond Head, Pearl Harbor, the ocean, the weather, Surfing, macadamia nuts, pineapples. If you've ever lived there, they're famous for never finishing the building of highways. Any time native human remains are found, the entire highway has to be rerouted.

There are many, all across a broad and varied range of categories such as the arts, geography, music and even manmade.

Some good examples of natural features include the Punakaiki (Pancake) Rocks, Fiordland National Park and the hot sulpher, mud and geothermal lakes of Rotorua, while The Alpine Fault that runs the length of the Southern Alps is famous for it's geophysics.

Many small towns also have their own landmarks and several areas have a giant statue of some nature to symbolise what their area is best known for, including a gumboot in Taihape, a Salmon in Rakaia, a golden guitar in Gore and a sheepdog in Tekapo.
