In Europe, the copyrights of the ORIGINAL "Peter Pan" story, are not held by anyone particular, as of January 1st 2008 - as the day before that, marked the complete 70 years since the author J.M. Barrie, died. So, anyone is free to adapt the original story and even make money with it as far as I've understood. BUT - Disney's version of the story still is protected by copyright law.
