You can use hardness(Moh's Hardness Scale), luster, shape, and fracture to identify quartz.
A group of minerals are called a rock, Quartz isn't a rock, it's a mineral. It has a hardness of around 7, it doesn't have cleavege but has a conchoidal fracture.
Cleavage
The word quartz does not have a suffix. Quartz is a noun and is a mineral that is white and colorless and made of silicon dioxide.
a conchoidial fracture is a "shell-like" fracture with a smooth curved surface
Quartz does not have cleavage. However, it does have fracture. Its fracture is conchoidal.
frature
Conchoidal Fracture. Clevage is impossible in a pearl
fracture
Physical properties like clevage,fracture,color, ect.
Fracture
Clevage-a flat cut. Fracture-a cut that hes bumps in it.
Calcite and quartz have a conchoidal fracture, which results in smooth, curved-shaped fractures with characteristic concentric ripples.
When minerals do not display cleavage, they are said to have a fracture. Fracture describes the way a mineral breaks when it does not have cleavage planes. This can result in irregular or random patterns of breakage.
Fracture
When quartz is broken it has a conchoidal fracture. Fracture is the appearance of the broken plane of a mineral. A conchodal fracture is described a being curved, and looking like broken glass.
Cleavage is a property of minerals. Sandstone is a rock type. As such it doesn't have the property of cleavage.Cleavage is a metamorphic fabric. Sandstone is not a metamorphic rock and thus can not display a cleavage.
