Yes. Itachi does indeed die.

Note: the following information was given by Tobi (Madara), who has already shown that he lied during the story (saying that he didn't summon the Kyubi), this story might be false as well.

After being ordered to by the Konoha Management, Itachi (with the help of Madara) eliminates his entire clan, save his little brother Sasuke, of which he couldn't bring himself to kill.

After eliminating his clan, he runs from the village, and joins Akatsuki. He wanted Sasuke to keep viewing him as a bad person, and he could also gather information on the inside in case it will be useful later.

When Itachi and Sasuke fight, Itachi is already very ill, and mostly blind by the Mangekyou Sharingan. Sasuke eventually wins the battle. Itachi pokes him on his forehead like he used to do when Sasuke was younger (transferring his powers to Sasuke to protect him), and then dies.

Tobi later on tells him the story of the Uchiha clan, how Itachi was forced to kill his own clan, and Sasuke now intends to destroy Konoha for what they did to his brother.

Itachi let Sasuke kill him, because when Itachi dies you'll notice that Itachi uses a very strong power that can kill Sasuke. Instead of using it to try to kill Sasuke he used it to free Sasuke from Orochimaru's curse mark. Itachi let Sasuke win because he loved him and he wanted to let Sasuke get his revenge.

He wanted Sasuke to come out as a hero and appear more powerful.

Yes, Itachi does die. He fights sasuke but beforehand he was already sick and dying. Also, due to the fact that he used the mangekyou sharingan so often, he starts losing his vision. We know who has the advantage. Itachi wanted to die by sasuke's hand. Reasons:He was ordered by the elders, Danzou and the konoha council, against the third hokages wishes, to kill his clan because they were com plotting against Konoha. He asked Madara(Tobi of the akatsuki) for help. He couldn't kill Sasuke because he loved his little brother too much and he didn't want Sasuke to to be ashamed of their stained clan and so that his life wouldn't get as painful and complicated as his own. He lied saying he wanted to test Sasuke's capacity. This is also the reason why he wanted to obtain the magekyou sharingan. He later then joined the akatsuki in order to keep up his "bad" reputation. He wanted to die by sasukes hand, as i said before. Before dying, Itachi poked Sasuke in the head, like in the past, and gave him all his powers and jutsus. Itachi was only being a good brother and citizen of Konoha, yet he dies.

Itachi was very sick and ill, and when he fought Sasuke, Itachi was on the brink of death, and the Mangekyou Sharingan was taking away his vision, too.


He wanted Sasuke to kill him, in order to complete his revenge and go back into living with peace. Also, he wanted to get rid of Orochimaru living within Sasuke (he did that by pushing Sasuke to his limit, and when Orochimaru came, he sealed him within Susanoo's sword).


His plans were spoiled by Tobi, who told Sasuke the truth about Itachi. After that, Sasuke went to revenge Konoha for using his brother like that.

Itachi DOES die. NOT by Sasuke but by an illness killing him internally which was inevitable. AND if someone uses Mangekyou they begin to go blind, Itachi used all 3 of his techniques and was becoming blind and dying. Before he dies he smiles like he did when they were younger and says "Sorry Sasuke... This is it." He then taps him on his forehead like he use to when he was younger, doing this he gave Sasuke his Sussano and Amaseratu. The Death of Itachi eventually unlocked Sasuke's Mangekyou. Itachi is a good guy. ALL THIS TIME. He planned a long time ago, after the slaughter of his clan. (BTW: He did NOT destroy his clan of his own free will and choice[s] he was commanded by the Leaf because they thought the Uchiha was planning to take over. He was a double-agent so to speak) Itachi may have killed everyone EXCEPT his younger brother because he loved him too much. So he planned to make Sasuke be consumed with hate so he could become stronger and be able to protect himself from Madara Uchiha. He knew Madara would try to control Sasuke so he plotted this long before. He set Ameseratsu to trigger when Madara's sharingan looked into Sasuke's to protect him. It worked but Madara teleported the flames somewhere else. Itachi succeeded in protecting his brother in a way but failed in some part in protecting the Village. He loved Sasuke but the Village also. In a Manga he gives Naruto some unknown power which is yet to be revealed.

Itachi Uchiha died as a result of overusing his powers. It is officially noted that Sasuke Uchiha did in fact kill Itachi, but it was due to his medical problems that we could assume that he was going to die anyway. Following the fight after Itachi was killed, Obito Uchiha "Tobi" revealed to Sasuke that Itachi's true intentions were to protect Sasuke, even if it went going against the Hidden Leaf Village itself. After tricking Sasuke into thinking that he was a bad person, Itachi then left the village and joined the Akatsuki and murdered his family so that Sasuke would train long and hard so that he could gain enough strength to protect himself. Obito also states that if Itachi really wanted to kill Sasuke, he could have easily done so. This is shown to definitely be true during the Fourth World Ninja War when Itachi demonstrates that he knows the abilities of Izanagi, a jutsu that can bend time and reality itself by changing fate at the cost of a Sharingan, and Izanami, a jutsu that can predict the future by allowing the user to select fate and keep the opponent in a continuous loop until they realize that they cannot succeed and finally quit. Before Itachi died, the crow that had Shisui Uchiha's Mangekyou Sharingan implanted into it lived inside Itachi, who could have used it against his brother to change his mind to "protect the Hidden Leaf Village," but he thought that he should die at Sasuke's feet so that Sasuke could have resolve and unlock his Mangekyou Sharingan. This power was eventually used on Itachi himself due to the crow coming out of Naruto during the Fourth World Ninja War. Itachi died a second time due to the undoing of the Impure World Resurrection/Edo Tensei jutsu used by Kabuto Yakushi
