Kakashi and Choji were battling Pain.
Pain thought he killed Kakashi. Kakashi used the Mangekyou Sharingan's black hole ability to try save himself. When Choji almost gets killed by Pain's puppet, Kakashi sacrifices himself by using it to save Choji instead.
Naruto talks with the real Pain, and Pain knows the Killing he's done was wrong. Everyone he killed is revived, and then Pain dies. Kakashi, who was talking to his father in the afterlife, returns to where he died.

half true: He wont die by a pin he died because using up his chacra and stamina with mengecou sharingan that he used to try to protect choji who was attaked by a misle that a pain used to try yo kill him.

after Naruto defeats all of the bodies of Nagato (who is the actual person controlling the six other bodies) and Naruto goes to talk to Nagato. After they talk and Naruto hears Konan, Nagato, and Yahiko's story, he gives Nagato his answer to finding peace. Nagato is changed and uses his last bit of energy to bring back to life everyone that was killed in the attack on Konoha. That includes Kakashi! yayz! So Kakashi is brought back to life.
For his dad, Kakashi's youngster years had a lot of pain in them. It is never mentioned (as far as I know) how his mom died, but it is known that she died very young. Kakashi was raised by his father who was a well known ninja known as the the "White Fang" But after a certain mission, his father had instead saved his comrades lives instead of finishing the mission. There was a war going on right then so it was important for the mission to be completed. It's also ninja law to put the mission first ahead of your comrades. After getting his comrades back safely, White Fang was ridiculed for not successfully completing the mission. Thus, this drove him to commit suicide. Kakashi had to live with knowing that his dad killed himself and why he did it. Thus Kakashi starts following the ninja laws to the letter until one of his team members named Obito Uchiha changed his mind when Obito told him that he thinks people who disregard their team mates are more trash than anyone who follows the rules. So Kakashi changed after loosing Obito that day. But Obito also gave him his Sharingan eye.

No Pein (Pain) hurt him bad with a nail by flinging it at his forehead in the manga
No kakashi used mangeyko sharingan to stop the nail from hitting him,then the other pain shot a missle at choji. Kakashi again used manygeyko sharingan to stop the missle. Then kakashi was seriously injured.
No! Kakashi was badly wounded, also unconcuis, by using up the last of his chakra in the battle with one of the Pein monsters.
