Native American Indian beliefs vary as much as an Irishman's to an Italian's, or an Englishman to a Russian. Native Americans are affiliated with many, many different tribes with histories and cultures that differ accordingly. Some general beliefs are that this is the Creator's world for us to honor, cherish and respect. This includes our earth mother, the four legged creatures , the sacred directions, the plants etc that He gives to us as his children.

To the native americans, the Great Spirit was the same thing as God. Just another mere name for God, or the Higher Power, or the Divine Source, or the Great Spirit. It really depends on what you mean when you say God. If you mean the christian version, well then obviously not. In my opinion, all the "different" gods that people celebrate all over the world in varying religions are all faces of the same Divine Source or Great Spirit.
The religion of the Spokane Indians was like that of most Native Americans. They held the belief in a Great Spirit and believed that animals contained a spirit.

There was no one name for God as each tribe had their own language. Great Spirit has been propagated as the name American Indians gave Creator, but that is actually just a loose translation for some tribes. The term Creator that I used here is a modern term also.

I may be wrong but most if not all Indiginous Americans believe in the Great White Spirit whose messages are sent via the "circling winds". ****** Answer. I would correct "Great White Spirit", presuming you meant to say Great Spirit, meaning God, Great One Above All Things, Creator, Mundu or any of the numerous ways we have of referring to God. The spirits would contact you through many ways including visions, dreams, instinct etc. You could also meditate and listen for messages from the spirit world.
