The film "Footloose" is essentially a film about teen rebellion, or more importantly teens standing up for what they believe in. In standing up for what they believe in, the teens in small country town Beaumont come up against adults, including key authority figures, and prevail, with all the townsfolk learning an important lesson in the process. The scene when Ariel challenges her father in the Church is crucial to this theme.
