Hundreds & hundreds, dare I say thousands of cartoons exist & have existed from all around the world. That's actually impossible to answer, considering the fact that they are just going to make hundreds and hundreds more cartoons over the years.
I think it's because early cartoons were aimed at children, specifically. Cartoons nowadays have more adult themes and references than cartoons from the early 1900's to the 1960's. Those were cartoons from a more innocent era. People are more cynical and savvy now. There are plenty of cartoons nowadays that are aimed squarely at teens and adults. 'Family Guy', 'Futurama', 'The Simpsons', and many more, are written with an adult sensibility. I am not, in the least bit, ashamed to view these cartoons. In fact, I often reference them in everyday conversation. Despite all of this, I agree that there is a stigma attached to adults watching animated shows.
Hundreds, thousands, maybe tens of thousands of people draw cartoons. Care to be a little more specific on what it is you're asking?
Foghorn Leghorn? There were a lot of cartoons with roosters. Try to be more specific.
Cartoons were always popular whether the venue was theater or television . Cartoons became ever more popular with the introduction of the television into most homes where an entire generation of children were exposed to cartoons such as Bugs Bunny , Woody the Woodpecker , Popeye the Sailorman , Betty Boop and others .
