American Airlines does not fly to India as of March 2012. However it used to fly to India on en routes Burbank/Los Angeles, California and/or Chicago O'Hare, Illinois to New Delhi, the Indian capital. It flew to India and not Pakistan because India was more profitable and it had a higher population than Pakistan (est. 10x the population of Pakistan). Also because it would receive competition from five different airlines: Pakistan International Airlines (which flies from New York JFK to Karachi and Lahore, Pakistan), Emirates (which flies from Houston, Seattle, New York JFK, Los Angeles, Dallas, and San Francisco to Pakistan via Dubai), Etihad (which flies from Chicago O'Hare, New York JFK, and Washington DC Dulles/U.S. Capital to Pakistan via Abu Dhabi), Qatar (which flies from Chicago, Houston, Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Montréal, New York JFK, and Washington DC Dulles to Pakistan via Doha), and Delta (which flies from Atlanta to India via Amsterdam and/or Atlanta to Dubai). American Airlines seeing that they don't need competition, flew the Chicago-New Delhi route instead, but then Air India (a very poor airline according to many people) flew the Chicago-New Delhi and Chicago-Hyderabad India routes from 2010 and still do today. So that is the long story of why American Airlines flew to India and not Pakistan.
