motul is the best really its got alot of wear additives in it don't use castrol car oil or any car oil for that matter they don't have enough zinc and phosphate to lubricate your engine well enough they have about half of what motorcycle oils have motul, bel ray, spectro or motorex are all great choices

How do you change oil on a 2001 sportster 1200
The oil drain plug is the 17mm nut at the bottom of the engine oil pan, underneath the bike. Approach it from the left side of the bike, so you don't have to maneuver around the exhaust pipe. Pay attention to the screw direction (it's upside down). Be careful not to strip the threads by over-tightening when you replace it.
