John Deere 210 38" mower deck drive belt: M40223 secondary drive belt
what model and which belt? If it is a 1000 series you have a transmission drive belt and a deck belt. I you have a 2000 series or higher or a cub cadet with an IH logo then you only have one belt the deck belt and no drive belt you have a drive shaft. So the model of the tractor and what belt needs to be given before the correct answer can be given.Phil
I'll Quote for you the directions given by the Gregory's Manual (No 268 for Commodore Lexen V6 1995 - 1997)Drive Belt:The Drive Belt tension is controlled by a tensioner assembly which maintains the correct tension on the drive belt and compensates for wear and stretch. The tensioner assembly is equipped with a tension indicator that shows when the tensioner is exerting minimum pressure on the drive belt.Check the drive belt for cracks or separation between the rubber and the fibre belt by examining the portion of the belt that is positioned around the water pump pulley.Note: If the drive belt is slipping and the tension indicator is within the normal operating range, remove the drive belt and check that the pulleys operated by the drive belt including the tensioner pully ratate smoothly without binding. If no fault can be found, renew the drive belt tensioner as described in the Engine section. To Renew(1) Place a 15mm ring spanner on the drive belt tensioner pulley bolt and rotate the pulley assembly anti-clockwise away from the belt BOLT IS LEFT HAND THREAD!(2) Hold the pully in this position and remove the drive belt from the water pump pulley. Return the pully to its previous position.(3) Disconnect the drive belt from the engine pulleys and remove the drive beltInstallation is a reversal of the removal with attention to the following points:(1)When installing the drive belt ensure that the grooves in the drive and engine pulleys alighn.(2)Rotate the tensioner pulley and position the drive belt onto the water pump pulley.(3)Start the engine and check the drive belt and tensioner operation.NOTE: It is normal for the drive belt to emit a squeak when the engine is started or stopped.SEE GREGORYS MANUAL ENGINE TUNE UP SECTION PAGE 26 FOR DRIVE BELT INSTALLATION SCHEMATIC.SCHEMATIC IS ALSO IN THE OWNERS MANUAL FOR YOUR CARIT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO REFER TO THIS DIAGRAM UPON INSTALLATION FOR BELT DIRECTION
The drive belt is fixed. There is no way to tighten it. They are model specific. You need to have the correct belt for the snowmobile. Now if you are referring to the track, that would be a different story. They are adjustable.
A tensioner automatically maintains the correct tension on the accessory drive belt.
Accessory drive belt.Accessory drive belt.

alternator drive belt?
Relieve Serpentine Belt Tension. Before removing the belt, note its routing around all applicable pulleys for ease of installation. # Using a box end wrench on the tensioner pulley center bolt, rotate the tensioner assembly clockwise. # While holding the tensioner in this position, remove the alternator drive belt from one or two of the applicable pulleys.Use a box end wrench to rotate the tensioner pulley assembly clockwise to relieve serpentine belt tension# Slowly release the tensioner, and remove the box end wrench from the center bolt. # Remove the alternator drive belt from the remaining applicable pulleys. To install: When installing the drive belt on the pulleys, ensure that it is properly seated in all of the pulley grooves. # Using the box end wrench, rotate the tensioner clockwise again, then position the drive belt on all of the pulleys. # Slowly release the tensioner until it eliminates all drive belt slack. # Inspect the tensioner indicator to be sure that the belt is properly tensioned. If the belt tension is incorrect, the belt should be replaced with a new one, or, if installing a new belt, the belt may not be the correct belt for your vehicle. # Then start the engine. Ensure that the drive belt works properly. # Stop the engine, then double-check to ensure that the belt is properly seated on all applicable pulleys.
The serpentine belt would be the same as the accessory drive belt.
Tech b is most correct.
Remove the air intake duct, if necessary. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7 L. Install a breaker bar with hex-head socket to the drive belt tensioner bolt. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise in order to relieve tension on the accessory drive belt. Remove the accessory drive belt from the pulleys and tensioner. Slowly release tension on the drive belt tensioner. Remove the breaker bar and socket from the drive belt tensioner bolt. Clean and inspect the drive belt surfaces of all the pulleys. Route the accessory drive belt around all the pulleys except the water pump pulley and tensioner. Install a breaker bar with hex-head socket to the drive belt tensioner bolt. Rotate the drive belt tensioner clockwise in order to relieve tension on the drive belt tensioner. Install the accessory drive belt under the water pump pulley. Install the accessory drive belt onto the drive belt tensioner. Slowly release the tension. Remove the breaker bar and socket from the drive belt tensioner bolt. Install the air intake duct, if necessary. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls - 5.7 L. Inspect the accessory drive belt for correct alignment.
