All VINs on American Market vehicles have been regulated since the early 80's by legislation. The first 8 digits are encoded with data, the 9th digit is a check digit, the 10th indicates the year of manufacture, and the rest are a sequential production number. The VIN number is on the neck of the motorcycle frame, i.e. where the handlebars are attached to the frame. This is true of many different models of bikes. While sitting on the bike, it is on the right side. This is easy to locate but do not confuse the VIN number with the engine number.
