The V65 Magna takes 580cc in the left fork and 565cc in the right fork, according to the manual. The difference in volume is related to the anti-dive modulator on the left fork. Left and right references are as you sit on the bike.
After oil/oil filter change, add four quarts and then check level as you add the fifth, 4 to 6 oz at a time.
Use 15-40 W oil that is JASO MA or MA2 approved, equally an oil of the same weight that is SAE SF or SG approved. Don't use regular car engine oil as it may damage the wet clutch of the bike. Check the oil frequently and add more if the engine burns some oil. Oil and filter change every 2-3 thousand miles.
It's hydraulic, so there is no adjustment possible. If it is slipping, either change your oil to a different barnd of motorcycle oil, or replace the clutch plates. I have also heard of putting a few ounces of Mavel Mystery Oil in with the oil for a few miles, and then changing the oil. Sometimes this will clean the "crud" off the plates.
how do i check oil level on Mercedes c240 2001
How can i check the oil level in a c180 classic
You can use any 15-40 W motorcycle engine oil that is JASO-MA or MA2 approved, similarly you can use all SAE SF and SG approved oils. As the bike is a 1984 model I would check if the engine was much worn and in that case go for a single grade 40 W oil of the specifications mentioned. Fully synthetic or semi-synthetic is immaterial as long as the oil is approved by the required standards.
