Remove all exposed bolts holding the magneto cover on. However Suzuki decided to hide one behind the Starter cover. So you need to remove the 3 Phillips screws holding that on. I had to use a #3 driver, tap on it with a hammer to seat it then, with some strength, turn them out. You will see that last screw inside. Wiggle it out. Things will start to drop like small cylinders. remember where they go for reassembly.
Remove the magneto and other electrical mounts and replace in new cover. It is fragile so be careful taking it out.
VERYCAREFULLY!!
place the magnet on the flywheel in front of magneto and place a buisness card between flywheel and magneto and tighten magneto down.......remove buisness card..
3-arm puller
It depends on the engine. The newer ones use a magneto which contain solid state ignition, and if that goes bad, you change the entire magneto. For the older ones, you have to remove the flywheel to get to the magneto plate. Then you would need to remove the retainer clip holding the cover plate. The points are in two pieces, and there is a screw holding it in. If you loosen the screw, you can adjust the points. You may also want to sand the points some if they are rough or pitted. Then you can put everything back together.
The DRZ400 motorcycles costs range about $1,000 to about $7,000. Insurance will also be needed and that can be hundreds more. The price depends on coverage.
take magneto off and use fine sandpaper or emory board and knock off surface rust on edge that contacts flywheel........when replacing turn flywheel to where magnet is in front of magneto and place buisness card between flywheel and magneto and tighten down ...remove buisness card......
