There’s no reason to spend a lot of money for a unique and eye-catching costume that will be the talk of any costume party. A bunch of grapes is a fun costume idea that is appropriate for either an adult or a child. All you need is a few cheap materials to create a fun and memorable costume.
For the base of your grapes costume, you’ll need brown tights or leggings and a t-shirt and shorts that you don’t mind putting holes in. Ideally the t-shirt and shorts would be purple, but any neutral color will work. You’ll also need a bag of purple balloons, about 25, and an equal number of safety pins.
Blow up and tie the balloons. The actual number needed will depend on the size of the person wearing the costume--you’ll need balloons to cover the front and back of both the t-shirt and shorts. You can also adjust the number of balloons needed by the size you blow them to. Larger balloons mean you need fewer to cover yourself, but it may make it more difficult to pin them to the shirt.
Lay the t-shirt out and begin pinning balloons to it. Stick the pins through the small tail made by the tying knot on the balloon. Be careful not to pin the front and back of the shirt together. Make sure to attach balloons to the shoulders and sleeves of the shirt. Go all the way down to the hem on both the front and the back, pinning the balloons as close together as possible so the sides rub against each other.
When you pin balloons on the shorts, leave some area open at the top where the t-shirt balloons will hang down. Pin a few balloons on the front, outsides and back of the shorts. You want to make a ring around your legs but not put any balloons between the legs, which would make it difficult to walk.
To wear your costume, put on the tights first--they make your grape stem. Carefully put on the shorts, then the t-shirt. If you want, you could make a stem hat with a circle of cardboard, some pipe cleaners and a length of elastic.
Be aware that this costume makes it difficult to sit down, so be careful what occasion you wear it for.
