The purpose of interchangeable parts is to mass produce machinerywith the same parts, back before 1798 when these parts were notinvented every item was hand made/custom made. Example: if you had two of those muskets and took them apart and switch the parts around it would never work. So Eli Whitney developeda wayto switch the parts of different manufactured goods around yet still work, allowing to be easier and a lot faster to make any sort of goods from back them. Similar to our processes today.
