Hardwoods have a huge variety of usage. From building houses to creating boats, furnitures, and even Musical Instruments. They are also perfect for fuels and manufacturing of charcoal. Hardwoods can also be use in making weapons, kitchen utensils and barrels. The most commonly use hardwood right now is the Oak beam which can also be use in several different useful ways.
Hardwood is used in places where strength, beauty or durability count:
- fine furniture
- flooring
- Baseball bats
- chairs
Softwood is less dense so it is weaker and more easily scratched or cracked.
It is cheaper, however, so it is chosen for framing houses, inexpensive furniture etc.
Hardwoods are good for almost anything that you want to create using a wood. It is always a perfect choice for things that you would want to last for a long time. Usually for a part of your house like flooring and doors and even furnitures. They maybe more expensive but that is because they are really quality material for any construction. Examples of these are oak beams and oak timber. They are even resistant to rots, fungal and insects which makes them extremely durable.
Durability / Strength.
There are harder woods and softer woods. Maple and Oak are harder woods, they are literally harder to dent, cut, drill into, etc. A softer wood is pine. Sometimes you see wood decribed as semi-hardwood, like Luan which is often called tropical mahogany - it's in between.
Typically a harder wood is used when its hardness is required for durability or strength. Or, you end up with a hard wood when the type of wood specifically is needed to match something else or is what someone wants to look at.
For example older staircases were often made of Oak because it's strong.
Many people like the look of a Maple floor and pick it for that reason as opposed to because it's hard and therefore will dent less easily.
Hardwood has its drawbacks too. All wood has pros and cons.
Hardwoods came from hardwood or angiosperm trees. They are usually classified as hardwoods because of their physical structure and make up. They are commonly denser and more expensive than others like softwoods. One good example of hardwood is the oak beam which is very useful to different industries.
Wholesale lumber companies specializing in hardwoods and with retail sales are a good source.
some Hardwoods come in different textures. or some come in different type of colours-for example dark and light! but what are the other uses of hardwoods!
There are many different types of hardwoods. Some common hardwoods are: Sugar Maple Oak Beech Walnut Hickory Ash Cherry Hardwoods used for firewood produce more heat and burn longer than a softwood like pine.
Trees such as Oak, Maple, Mahogany, and Willow are hardwoods. Note that pine trees are NOT hardwoods but softwoods.
