∙ 16y agoFan-fold rigid insulation is available in 1/4" thickness that unfolds to cover the exterior sheathing before siding installation. The insulation can be applied with galvanized roofing nails or plastic cap nails which should penetrate into the wood framing of the walls. Tape any joints in the fan-fold insulation with foamboard tape before siding is installed.

You only need 8-10 inches. That is enough for insulation. You only need enough to put in the insulation you want. I'm in Arizona and only have 1' between the ceiling and a flat roof. But it's full of insulation. Works for me. Possible help added: A ridge vent for a pitched roof is a great way to help keep the heat down in an attic.
If your attic is very old, then it could be risky. But otherwise you could very well do that, as summers to tend to get very hot, a fan would be nice!

Inuits still had summers but very short ones and still with a mild case of snow and not warm enough to be outside without a coat.
