Subtraction. They all want to be size zero.
Yes. Wardrobe stylists organize and choose the outfits fashion models will wear and they also make sure all the clothing is in place and is properly being worn. They also assist the models with changing in and out of the clothes.
Catalog models use people of all ages.
NO!! who would ask a question like that Heidi Klum isn`t and I want to be a fashion model and I get straight As on my report card
Many times models are dangerously underweight. They may reach or maintain their weight through dangerous and unhealthy methods such as extreme caloric restriction or use of dangerous stimulants. Not all fashion models are unhealthy, to be sure, but eating disorders are especially rampant in the modeling industry.

Without the modeling industry, most of the advertising and marketing world would not be able to thrive. Fashion models and commercial/print models are all responsible for showcasing the latest clothes, accessories, trends, products, and companies. Modeling plays a huge part in the marketing world and drawing consumer attention to products and clothes. Without fashion models, there wouldn't be as much publicity for fashion designers or fashion shows--the same goes for commercial/print models, which appear in everything from catalogs to billboards and product packaging.
There is a need for models of all ages. There are baby models, child models, teen models and adult models. Teen models are usually 13-17, but fashion models have also started as young as 13-14 years old. To do lingerie or adult oriented modeling you have to be 18 or older.
Fashion shows typically do not use 12-year-old models because they are too young. However, there are local fashion shows that take place in shopping malls that usually take models of all age ranges.
Yes. Age is very important in modeling, mainly for fashion and runway. The younger a model is, the better. Most fashion/runway models start as young as 14. By industry standards, 25 is typically the age when the average fashion/runway model "retires." However, print modeling is open to all ages, even middle age and elderly models, which are always in demand by companies that want to promote products geared towards those demographics. As far as gender, female models are always prevalent in all types of modeling. Male models fall under the categories of print, fashion and runway modeling. There is currently no market for male plus size or petite models, however.
In general, no, not according to the standards set by fashion designers and agencies. However, there is "plus size" modeling, which describes female fashion models that range in size from 10-18. There is also "real people" modeling, which is a niche that accepts people of all shapes, sizes, ages and ethnicities.
No such census is taken for the number of models in the UK so the exact number is unknown. However, it is fairly safe to say that there are a few hundred thousand (that's including all types of models--male and female--not just fashion and runway).
