The only connection I can think of is the WW2 Presentation aircraft. During WW2 it was the custom for towns, businesses and even people to donate money to the RAF to have an aircraft carry their name or family crest. Almost 1,300 Spitfires flew with such names, all as part of the Royal Air Force. Two of them were Prince Tungi Tonga 1 and Prince Tungi Tonga 2.
Google -Spitfire,prince tungi tonga.
During WW2, countries and even rich people were encouraged to 'buy' a Spitfire or Lancaster. They did not actually get possession, but the aircraft served in an RAF unit carrying the badge of that country or family.
Griptape is griptape, there is no good or bad with it. But, if you get the choice buy something like mob or jessup griptape rather than spitfire as spitfire specialise in wheels and you might look a bit stupid when you say you have spitfire grip.
