The Dragonfly
It was the Sikorski design team
Igor Sikorsky
Then it would fly! unfortunatly he didn't. He did design a helicopter, but it is not believed to work.
From Leonardo da Vinci
All helicopters have different designs, the only commonality is the rotor on top.
He stuied the design of da Vinci
You need a design for a helicopter. That design will tell you what materials you need...because every heli has different materials in it. The things you need to build a Robinson R-22 are different from the things you need to build a Sikorsky CH-53E.
Leonardo Da Vinci
All engineering firms that do design have design standards.Plus they conform to national and probably international standards. That's the point of having standards.
He invented a spiral contraption that is similar to a modern day design of the helicopter and also built wings that he thought could make a person fly but later realized that birds have hollow bones whereas people have heavy, solid bones. Other than that, I don't know... Hope I helped.
Igor Sikorski was an aircraft designer in Russia. But he came to the US and began to build helicopters. Many of his helicopter designs were used in the military. In 1943, Larry Bell who owned Bell Aerospace was convinced of a helicopter design after seeing a remote controlled model built and flown by Arthur Young. Bell set-up a design shop in Garden Park, NY where the first Bell Helicopter was built. This prototype evolved to become the Bell Model 47---the first helicopter to receive FAA Certification.
