Slavery was so popular because people didn\'t want to slave around all day doing work on their fields, so they got Africans to do it for them. Also they didn\'t have to pay for the slaves and people in their own countries wouldn\'t want to help and wouldn\'t what to do it for them. They thought the slaves were perfectly strong and healthy, so they could do their work better then them. :)

Slavery had become an "institution" in the South and had existed in the first British colonies up until the end of the Civil War. It existed in the North too. Cotton plantations were dependent on slavery.
