the cold war was fought because the Soviet Union was trying to force North and South Korea into communism but they refused to go so the United States went to aide Korea and threatend the Soviet Union with Atomic bombs just like they did with Japan.
Looking back on history, anyone learning about nuclear weapons in WWII would have seen it coming. President Roosevelt decided to develop the Manhattan Project, a project to produce an atomic bomb. The thought was that if the US didn't, Germany would. As allies with the US, the Soviet Union had spies in America, and it is thought that Stalin knew about the top-secret project before President Truman did. After World War II, the Soviet Union unveiled that they had nuclear weapons. Thus tension grew between the two countries, having radically different ideologies. The US believed in democracy and capitalism, while the USSR was radically communist. Although no nuclear weapons were ever launched at the opposing country, the Cold War was the closest the world ever came to total annihilation.
The Cold War was a war of words and ideologies rather than a shooting war, although at times the Cold War turned "hot" as in Korea and Vietnam. Basically, the Cold War was a rivalry between the United States as leader of the western democracies, and the Soviet Union and the nations that were controlled by the communists. Each side attemted to gain more control, political and economic, in areas of the other's domain or in the "neutral" areas that did not side with either communism or democracy.
The United States fought in more than two places during the Cold War, but the two big ones were Korea and Vietnam.
All human beings living during the cold war (1945-1990) were witnesses. There was no war. Cold War means Military Stand-Off. Stand-Off means facing each other ready to fight... Ready to fight is not fighting.
They would either back down, as during the Cuban Missile Crisis; or fight a limited war (Limited to conventional weapons) such as the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
They were both wars against communism; its just Vietnam was a shooting war and the cold war was NOT a shooting war. Example (analogy)-It would be like two men arguing in a bar (as an example) about something (which would be the cold war) and then going outside and having a fist fight...or worse ( this would be Vietnam) about the same argument.
Microsoft was invented during the cold war.

It was a fight about democracy and communism. That is what the cold war was about.
