In the month of June on the year 1812, the war of 1812 was started, and Britain and America clashed once more. In this war, the newly made White House was burned down. Here is the story: to sum it up, there was a fort name Fort Washington. During the war, spies had uncovered that the British would send ships down the Potomac and attack D.C. The people at Fort Washington quickly devised a plan: they would send a large chain across the river just under the waters edge, so the ships could not see, and when the ships hit them, the bottoms would be torn off and the ships would sink, the Potomac becoming a whole FLEET'S graveyard. However, the night of the attack, everyone was invited to a party to celebrate the cunning and clever plan. They put up the chain and waited. And waited. And waited. They then saw black smoke rising from D.C. through the fog of the night. They then realized... they had been too late. The ships had gotten through before they put the put the chain up. The White House burned.
