Mussolini, Chamberlain, Daladier and Hilter met at the last minute on 29 September 1938 to decide Czechoslovakia's fate. They decided that Czechoslavkia had to hand over the German speaking Sudetenland which contained the country's western and northern defenses against Germany. The Czechs gave in easily because they had no help and in October 1938, German troops marched into the Sudetenland.
They occupied the rest of the country in March 1939.
After the Munich Agreement of September 1938, Hitler's troops occupied the ethnic-German border regions of Bohemia and Moravia (the Sudetenland). Soon afterwards Hungary received territory in southern Slovakia and Ruthenia. Czechoslovakia ceased to exist in March 1939, when Hitler occupied the rest of the Czech lands, and the remaining part of Slovakia became a Nazi puppet state. Poland also seized a small area of Czehoslovakia in 1938.
