The Civil war was different because of the things invented for the war. Some of these were; flame throwers, mines, submarines, repeating rifle, and the machine gun. Air reconnaissance using hot air balloons was used for the first time. Also for the first time war was put on film. Mathew Brady took pictures of battlefields and the dead. This changed peoples view of war was and what really happened in a war. All of this made the war different and this isn't a full list.
