Britain's influence started with the Treaty of Versailles this was a highly unfair and biased treaty although arguments can be made about the need for this treaty to punish Germany for WW1 the limitations this put on Germany can be later said to have been a cause for its economic collapse which helped Hitler get into power. Also after Hitler made it into power the "appeasement" that the British government and others were involved with, this included giving back the Rhineland and polish corridor. You should look at the details of the Treaty of Versailles, and look up information on "appeasement" as well hope this helped.
