Sherman's scorched earth march from Atlanta to Savannah in which his forces used a total war policy by burning, foraging and living off the spoils of the land was against the weakened Confederate Army. The South could offer only limited resistance, but did keep pressure on the Yankee's with constant ambushes and raids. The noteworthy battles include Griswoldville, Buck Head Creek, Waynesborough, Honey Hill and Fort McAllister.
