NATO, SEATO, nor the UN were utilized in the Vietnam War. The war's controversy had affected the members. However, ANZUS (Australia, New Zealand, United States), even though there were some disagreements there to, did take effect. ANZUS, created in '51, called for defense to protect nations in the immediate Pacific area, thus ANZUS responded. SEATO would've done the same thing, however the SEATO members of Britain, France, and Pakistan refused to deploy troops to Vietnam; thus, again, ANZUS had to hold the line.
SEATO. South East Asia Treaty Organization.
SEATO was the Southeast Asian counterpart to NATO in Europe. It was an alliance of nations formed to prevent Communist expansion in Southeast Asia, but it was not as successful as NATO. South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos fell to the Communists some twenty years after SEATO was created, and the organization was dissolved in the 1970's.

SEATO was actually formed around that time frame, and France was part of SEATO. SEATO was dissolved in about 1977 because France and Pakistan withdrew from SEATO. SEATO was formed to protect the free nations of South East Asia "Treaty Organization" from a communist attack. France had little to nothing to do with why and when SEATO was formed; communism had something to do with it.

South East Asian Treaty Organization. SEATO is an acronym, not an abbreviation.
By 1972 Bhutto (president of that time) came to know that membership of SEATO was of limited value so he withdrew Pakistan from the organization and that is when Pakistan left SEATO.
