On December 7, 1941 when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. 6 Japanese Carriers launched 352 planes which sank the Battleships Arizona, Oklahoma, California, and West Virginia killing close to 3,000.
After the Japanese attack on the US Fleet at Pear Harbor it was the only alternative available.

The US had its own issues and problems to deal with before the war, it was recovering form one of the most economic trying times, immigration regulations had just been put into force and the political climate was one of isolationism.
