Most of the same superpowers were still in place after WW2 but I think what you're referring to is the Soviet Union and the U.S. The war had left all of Europe in ruins, except the impenetrable USSR. England and France lost a lot of their standing because of how much damage the had to undo. America and the Soviet Union emerged as two very very powerful nations, both with nuclear power and what made this so scary was the fact that by the end of the war, they were enemies.
