q means every (for example: qday = every day; q6h = every 6 hours)
qid means 4 times a day
Other commonly used abbreviations include BID (twice a day) and TID (3 times a day).
however qid is no longer a recommended way of giving orders because it is easily confused with similar abbreviations

These are all correct as far as they go. QID, 4x a day, is OK for most meds. Some others, like antibiotics that say QID, should really say q6h, i.e.6A-12N-6P-12MN. to maintain a constant level of the medication in your blood. Please call your doctor or pharmacist for clarification. Edit by nurse and Pharm.Tech
