Of course, a good night's sleep makes you feel energized and alert the next day. Being engaged and active not only feels great, it increases your chances for another good night's sleep. When you wake up feeling refreshed, use that energy to get out into the daylight, do active things, and be engaged in your world. You'll sleep better the next night and increase your daily energy level.
Doctors say 8 - 10 hours of sleep, but I feel that most people don't have the time to sleep for 9 - 10 hours if working. Part-time, double shifts, and some companies start early in the morning. The body goes through sleep cycles of one and one half hour increments. The amount of time it takes for you to go from beginning sleep to rem sleep (deep sleep) and awakening sleep. If you wake up during the deep sleep, you feel groggy and unrested. So try to sleep either 4.5 hrs, 6 hrs, 7.5 hrs or 9 hrs. That way you wake up at the appropriate time, at the end of the sleep cycle and are fully awake and fully rested.
Around 8-9 hours sleep a night is best. As teenagers need enough sleep to get all there energy back
Most adults need 7-9 hours of sleep but children need 6-9 hours of sleep.
If you sleep 8 hours a day, you are spending 1/3 of a day sleeping. This is because there are 24 hours in a day, and 8 hours is one-third of 24 hours. So, you are spending 1/3 or 33.33% of your day sleeping.

"Polyphasic sleep isn't unhealthy. With that being said, humans generally need to get a full 8 hours of sleep per night. Polyphasic sleep does not fulfill this need in the slightest bit."
