Estimates by the American Red Cross and America's Blood Centers suggest that less than 5% of eligible blood donors provide all the volunteer blood components each year. Approximately 14-16 million donations are made each year, by 8-9 million donors, producing 30-45 million transfusable blood components.

Total blood volume in most adults is approximately 55-60 mL/kg body weight. Current FDA guidelines allow the collection of 10.5 mL/Kg body weight of whole blood to be collected during volunteer blood donation. With the majority of blood collection facilities using 500ml collection sets, and an additional 50 ml collected for screening tests, this represents approximately 12-15% of circulating blood volume. Removal of volumes above this significantly increase post-transfusion reactions (weakness, fainting, nausea, seizure activity, etc.).
Theoretically, the entire US population above the age of 16 is eligible for volunteer blood donation. However, medical and high risk deferrals remove approximately 30-40%. The latest National Blood Utilization Survey (2009) indicates that 5-7% of the eligible population donates blood. In 2008 (latest data), 17 million units were donated by 10 million donors.
The country's blood supply is donated by about eight million people, representing a broad cross section of the population, although fewer than 5% of those eligible donate.
The value of a blood type is determined by the location and place you donate. Check with local blood banks and donating facilities in your area to determine how much you will be paid to donate.

FDA guidelines allow blood collection facilities to collect a maximum of 10.5 ml/kg body weight of whole blood from eligible donors at each donation attempt. The majority of blood centers use 500 ml collection bags, with an additional 50 ml allowed to be collected for mandated screening tests.
A pint. Then they replenish it with cookies and juice. Good times.
no. They will turn you away just in case the blood loss somehow causes a loss of consciousness.
Only 10% because you need blood to be alive and to breath correctly and you need blood to flow through you veins and arteries
you should wait 6 weeks
Any bloodtype is just as easy to donate as any other.
blood typing is very much important while transfusing it. we cann't donate blood if the blood group of the donar do not match with the blood group of the recepient. If it is done so, there will be clotting of blood in the body of the recepient.
